I moved to a 26 acre country home near Springfield, Ohio when I was
11 years old...same age as Amy Jo and Becky from the Pony
Investigators series. A retired circus horse named Red came with
the farm. Red had some cute and not so cute tricks. One of
his cute tricks was nodding his head up and down when asked if he was a
"good boy". I would always give him a cube of sugar in response to the
nod. His not so cute trick was galloping under trees in the orchard in
an attempt to knock me off his back. In any case, a love of horses
grew out of loving, caring for, and sometimes tolerating Red.
After marriage and two children, I became a reading specialist, but
still felt that yearn to write. Finally, I put pen to paper, took
several writing classes, and the Pony Investigators series was created.
My daughter, Lauren, began riding at the age of five. Nineteen
years later, she still rides everyday. Lauren has great artistic
gifts. She began to draw about the same time she started riding.
In 2005, Lauren graduated from The Maryland Institute, College of Art in
Baltimore, Maryland. Her wonderful illustrations in each of the Pony
Investigators' books have added immensely to their popularity.
Readers especially enjoy the flip book drawings that Lauren introduced
as well as the map at the beginning of each of the books.
